<h1 class="ql-align-center">Plant Discoveries 2020</h1> <h2>Context:</h2> <ul><li>Recently, the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), in its new publication&nbsp;Plant Discoveries 2020</li></ul> <h2>About:</h2> <ul><li>In its recent report,&nbsp;BSI has added 267 new taxa/ species to the country’s flora.&nbsp;</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-indent-1">The 267 new discoveries include: </li><li class="ql-indent-2">119 species of seed plants</li><li class="ql-indent-2">57 species of fungi</li><li class="ql-indent-2">44 species of lichens</li><li class="ql-indent-2">21 species of algae</li><li class="ql-indent-2">18 species of microbes</li><li class="ql-indent-2">5 species of bryophytes</li><li class="ql-indent-2">3 species of fern and fern allies.</li></ul> <ul><li>Some new discoveries are:</li><li class="ql-indent-1">9 new species of&nbsp;balsams (Impatiens)&nbsp;and 1 species of wild&nbsp;banana&nbsp;(Musa pradhanii) from Darjeeling.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">1 species each of&nbsp;wild Jamun&nbsp;(Sygygium anamalaianum) from&nbsp;Coimbatore.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Fern species&nbsp;(Selaginella odishana) Kandhamal in&nbsp;Odisha.</li></ul> <ul><li>Distribution of discoveries:</li><li class="ql-indent-1">22%&nbsp;&nbsp;from WesternGhats&nbsp;</li><li class="ql-indent-1">15% from Western Himalayas&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li class="ql-indent-1">14% from Eastern Himalayas&nbsp;</li><li class="ql-indent-1">12 % from Northeast Ranges&nbsp;</li><li class="ql-indent-1">10% from the West coast contributed</li><li class="ql-indent-1">9% from East Coast contributed</li><li class="ql-indent-1">4% from the Eastern Ghats and South Deccan each</li><li class="ql-indent-1">3% from Central Highland and North Deccan each</li></ul> <h2>Botanical Survey of India (BSI):</h2> <ul><li>It is the&nbsp;apex research organization&nbsp;under the&nbsp;Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEFCC)&nbsp;for carrying out taxonomic and floristic studies.</li></ul> <ul><li>It was&nbsp;established in 1890 and its&nbsp;headquarter is located in Kolkata, West Bengal.</li></ul> <ul><li>It has&nbsp;9 regional circles&nbsp;situated in different regions of the country.</li></ul>
