<h1 class="ql-align-center">Nokku Kooli</h1> <h2>Context:</h2> <ul><li>Kerala high court while hearing the case related to Nokku Kooli, asked the government to explain new measures taken to end the menace once and for all.</li></ul> <h2>About:</h2> <ul><li>Nokku Kooli is the money charged by trade union workers for the work either done by machine or others, as their right.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">This practice has been widespread among the head-load workers who are basically labourers involved in loading and unloading activities.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">A Registered head-load worker demands Nokku Kooli either do the loading or unloading work himself or when he gets the job done through his own worker.</li></ul> <ul><li>In Malayalam, 'Nokku Kooli', translates into 'gawking wages' or 'wages for (just) looking on'.</li></ul> <ul><li>The practice still persists in the state despite a ban and repeated directives by the High Court. On May 1, 2018, the Kerala government banned the practice.</li></ul>
