<h1 class="ql-align-center">Coffee Act, 1942</h1> <h2>Context:</h2> <ul><li>Recently, the Ministry of Commerce &amp; Industry decided to simplify the Coffee Act, 1942</li></ul> <h2>About:</h2> <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Indian coffee industry holds acclamation amongst coffee estates in the world but after the First World War, the Indian coffee economy was in a deplorable state.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">Then the Government of India established a Coffee Board and enacted the Coffee Act of 1942 and comes under the purview of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Now Ministry of Commerce and Industry decided to simplify the Coffee Act, 1942 as it has some regulatory issues:</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">Any person owning land with coffee plants planted on it, or divided amongst different estates has to apply for registration at the registration officer appointed by State Government.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">They have to do so within a month of the date when they became owners.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">Once registered, it can only become invalid if the registering officer cancels it.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-indent-1 ql-align-justify">Punishment for non-compliance to the above-mentioned procedure is a fine of up to Rs. 1000 and a fine of up to Rs. 500 for each subsequent month.</li></ul> <h2 class="ql-align-justify">Coffee Board of India:</h2> <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">It is a statutory organization constituted under the Coffee Act, 1942.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">It functions under the Ministry of Commerce &amp; Industry.</li></ul> <ul><li class="ql-align-justify">It acts as a means to uplift and improve the coffee industry.</li></ul>
