<h1 class="ql-align-center">Anuradha Bhasin vs Union of India, 2020 Case</h1> <h2>About:</h2> <ul><li>Supreme Court of India held that access to information via the Internet is a fundamental right under the Indian Constitution.</li></ul> <ul><li>SC also ruled that any restriction on Internet access by the Government must be temporary, limited in scope, lawful, necessary, and proportionate.</li></ul> <ul><li>The court reiterated that the Government's orders restricting Internet access are subject to review by Courts.</li></ul> <h2>Fundamental Rights Under Article 19 :</h2> <ul><li>The judgment declared that the&nbsp;freedom of speech and expression&nbsp;and the&nbsp;freedom to practice any profession&nbsp;or carry on any trade, business, or occupation&nbsp;over the medium of the Internet enjoys constitutional protection under Article 19 (1) (a) and Article 19 (1) (g) respectively.</li></ul> <ul><li>It also ruled that such freedom is&nbsp;not absolute,&nbsp;the restrictions imposed on it should be in consonance with the mandate under&nbsp;Article 19(2) and Article 19(6) of the Constitution.</li></ul> <h2>Territorial Extent of Internet Suspensions:</h2> <ul><li>It had also directed authorities to pass internet suspension orders with respect to&nbsp;only those areas, where there is an absolute necessity for such restrictions to be imposed.</li></ul>
